A search for ultrahigh-energy neutrinos associated with astrophysical sources using the third flight of ANITA

چکیده

Abstract The ANtarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) long-duration balloon experiment is sensitive to interactions of ultrahigh-energy (E>10 18 eV) neutrinos in the Antarctic ice sheet. third flight ANITA, lasting 22 days, began December 2014. We develop a methodology search for energetic spatially and temporally coincident with potential source classes ANITA data. This applied several classes: IceCube-identified neutrino sources TXS 0506+056 NGC 1068, flaring high-energy blazars reported by Fermi All-Sky Variability Analysis, gamma-ray bursts, supernovae. Among searches within five classes, one candidate was identified as associated SN 2015D, although not at statistically significant level. proceed place upper limits on classes. further comment application this more future instruments.

Astrophysical Sources of High Energy Neutrinos

I give a brief critical review of the predicted intensity of diffuse high energy neutrinos of astrophysical origin over the energy range from ∼ 10 eV to ∼ 10 eV. Neutrinos from interactions of galactic cosmic rays with interstellar matter are guaranteed, and the intensity can be reliably predicted to within a factor of 2 up to 10 eV. Somewhat less certain are intensities in the same energy rang...

Search for Point Sources of High Energy Neutrinos with AMANDA

This paper describes the search for astronomical sources of high-energy neutrinos using the AMANDA-B10 detector, an array of 302 photomultiplier tubes, used for the detection of Cherenkov light from upward traveling neutrino-induced muons, buried deep in ice at the South Pole. The absolute pointing accuracy and angular resolution were studied by using coincident events between the AMANDA detect...

High energy astrophysical neutrinos

High energy neutrinos with energy typically greater than tens of thousands of GeV may originate from several astrophysical sources. The sources may include, for instance, our galaxy, the active centers of nearby galaxies, as well as possibly the distant sites of gamma ray bursts. I briefly review some aspects of production and propagation as well as prospects for observations of these high ener...

High energy neutrinos from astrophysical sources: An upper bound

We show that cosmic-ray observations set a model-independent upper bound of En Fn,2 310 GeV/cm s sr to the intensity of high-energy neutrinos produced by photo-meson ~or p-p! interactions in sources of size not much larger than the proton photo-meson ~or p-p! mean-free-path. This bound applies, in particular, to neutrino production by either AGN jets or GRBs. The upper limit is two orders of ma...

Constraints on Ultrahigh-Energy Cosmic-Ray Sources from a Search for Neutrinos above 10 PeV with IceCube.

We report constraints on the sources of ultrahigh-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) above 10^{9}  GeV, based on an analysis of seven years of IceCube data. This analysis efficiently selects very high- energy neutrino-induced events which have deposited energies from 5×10^{5}  GeV to above 10^{11}  GeV. Two neutrino-induced events with an estimated deposited energy of (2.6±0.3)×10^{6}  GeV, the highes...
